Power Yachts Celebrate End of Season

In a season punctuated with weather interruptions, travel plans and the occasional Covid absence, the low number of time triallers who actually managed to complete eleven consistency events made the eventual winner really hard to predict.  The retirement of 2021 winner Amazon (Steve and Amanda) left the field more open than it has been for some time, with a battle between Purrfect, Thanet, Tikkityboo and Dalusional continuing throughout the year.

Newly elected commodore Troy Dalglish, with navigator Victoria Blanckensee finished on top of the pile so Dalusional will be wearing the highly prized 400 next year.  Jason and Caroline were not far behind in second place to complete another very consistent season, to be rewarded with the Consistency Trophy, meaning that they will retain the 401 number.

Brian and Marian Boswell, when called forward, seemingly expected another wooden spoon, but were surprised to be recognised as the Club’s best first year team. From their first few outings with three figure scores, they have become competitive remarkably quickly, a fact which might have been disguised by a few wooden spoons along the way. They have fitted in well in the power yacht group.

Michael and Maria enjoyed a good season too, finishing a narrow second overall in consistency and being rewarded for their endeavours with he Most Improved trophy.

Ian and Kerry Staples were right up there again too, picking up a third place on Consistency, showing that their steady performances, while flying under the radar during the season, are recognised.

All efforts will now focus on getting the 2023 season up and running. With less interruptions from wild winter weather and Covid, the team is hopeful of a resurgence in participating numbers and a continuation of its dominance in State events.

Don’t forget that the postponed function for the CPYA presentations is drawing close and please book as soon as you can to give RPYC’s catering staff every chance.  The presentation is in the form of a BBQ, but it is of course fully catered (you won’t be expected to cook your own!) with a great menu.  Please contact RPYC to reserve your spot and ensure that our Club is well represented. RPYC have made available a number of parking spots for those who want to cross the river by boat.
