Dinghy Courses

CATAMARAN PROGRAM

“Learn to Sail and Race a Dinghy ” This program has been developed to provide a safe introduction to catamaran sailing for teenagers and adults. It starts with the fundamental knowledge of how to sail for complete beginners and progresses through the levels, teaching more advanced skills and techniques. The program will teach you the skills and give you the experience to be able to sail in club racing and/or enjoy being out on the water without the need of an Instructor. South of Perth Yacht Club uses the 6 club owned Hobie Waves for these programs.

Hobie Wave Courses
Once you have completed level 2 you have the option of joining the Hobie Green Fleet, a weekly training group designed to further advance your skills on a consistent basis until you are ready to transition into one of our club fleets and start club racing. The Green Fleet training group is designed to create a training environment using the club owned Hobie Waves for people who have learnt to sail and would like to continue to develop their skills until they have the confidence to join a club fleet and participate in club racing and/or be able to sail a boat on their own without an Instructor. It is a weekly training session which runs all throughout the year except for a break in July during winter and a 2 week break over Christmas.

To be in the Green Fleet you need to join the club as a member and enrol in the training group. The membership fee is dependent on the membership type you choose and the training fee is $40.00 a month, divided into 2 time frames for the payment, August to December and January to June. The amount for both payments is worked out using a pro rata system, taking into account the month you join the training group.
