COURSE OFFERED
Small boat sailing Basic Skills 1 & 2 (School Holidays)
Every school holidays we run sailing programs. This is a fun and exciting way to spend the holidays. Open to kids from 8-16yrs. The aim of the course is to reach Basic Skills 2 competency in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
Monday to Friday (9am-12noon each day)
This course runs throughout the summer season. It is the next step up for those who have participated in a Basic Skills Course, Novice Sailing or a Schools Small Boat Sailing Programme. It is designed to develop more advanced sailing skills and introduce participants to competitive sailing.
Sundays 9.00-12.00noon
Wednesday Club (Novice Sailing)
Designed for kids aged 8-16 years. Novice sailing is conducted each week during school term and can be started at any time during the year. Weekly sailing classes work through the YA syllabus. Classes are conducted in both Pacers & Pelicans. A great stepping stone to get your kids into regular racing and best of all the first session is free!!
Wednesdays 4pm-6pm (school term only)
Competent Crew Course (J24 Keelboats)
The competent crew course is designed to take beginners and teach them to be a valued crew member. This is a great way to start your sailing career if you prefer the bigger boats. The 7.2m fixed keel yachts are sailed with a crew of four and an instructor on each boat. The role of the instructor is to train and assist the crew in all aspects of sailing the boat including steering. By the end of the course participants should be able to set and trim sails, communicate and work as a team, and steer the boat in a variety of conditions.
Saturdays 9.00am-12.00 noon (5wks)
Intermediate Course (J24 Keelboats)
This course involves a little more detail than the competent crew course. It goes into more depth about sail shape and other sailing skills. With the introduction of tactics and rules of racing it is a great way to gain more confidence on the race track.

Refresher Course
For all those people out there that haven't been sailing for a while. You may have lost your confidence or just need to brush up on some skills you've forgotten. The course is run over two weekends and targets anything you would like to improve. Courses are currently run on a demand basis.
Private Lessons/Courses
The South of Perth Sailing Academy runs private lessons at the request of individuals. These can be tailored specifically to your needs and should be booked directly through the Training Coordinator. We can also run courses for specific groups as required.

Junior & Youth Training
The South of Perth Yacht Club conducts class training on Sunday mornings prior to racing for the various junior & youth classes. For more information on this training contact the relevant class representatives.
Recreational Skippers Ticket Theory & Practical Assessment
The RST has recently become government legislation and is required by anyone in charge of a vessel. The theory assessment is conducted first at an evening session between 7.00 & 9.00pm. and the practical assessment completed in small groups following successful completion of the theory assessment. Times for the practical assessment are arranged with the assessor at the theory evening. They are generally scheduled between 4.00 and 7.00pm. Monday to Thursday.
Recreational Skippers Ticket Practical Training
Practical training in handling small powerd craft is available for those who wish to sit the RST but fiel they should brush up on their boat handling skills. This training is arranged as required by contacting the office. Up to three can be accommodated at a time on the vessel.
Recreational Skippers Ticket Training & Assessment
This course is held over two evenings and a half day. It includes the theory assessment, practical training and practical examination. The practical training and assessmant is completed in small groups aboard a 4.8m Centre Console Runabout.
National Power Boat Handling Certificate
Designed for the novice, this course covers all the basics of power boating and also includes the RST component. The course comprises four theory sessions and two practical sessions.
