SPONSORS

GRAND SPONSOR SCHEME CHARTER

Primary Objectives

To promote and develop participation and excellence in the sport of sailing to current and prospective members of South of Perth Yacht Club who are aged 19 years and under.

To encourage loyalty, good clubmanship and sportsmanship in younger members and in realising they are important to the future of the Club, support competitive sailing participation and membership retention initiatives.

To promote the SoPYC Grand Sponsor Scheme to club members, corporate and local business, and community organisations in order to grow the scheme.

To grow and retain the annual Grand Sponsor funding level to more than $100,000 per annum.

Strategies and Purposes

To underwrite and subsidise costs of the SoPYC Sailing Academy related to the provision of sail training to young sailors.

To assist the Club in the cost of supplying and maintaining sailing and training equipment and assets for use of the Club’s youth and the SoPYC Sailing Academy .

To provide funding assistance in the areas of coaching and travel costs for youth sailors of the south of Perth Yacht Club to support their attendance and skills at state, national and international level.

To provide a Mentoring Program for the elite youth sailors in the final years of their development to help equip them with the skills needed to manage their own funding and sponsorships as they move to open/adult level state, national and international competition.

To establish a Committee comprising sponsors and members together with a designated Management Committee representative, to make recommendations to the Management Committee, and to market, promote and co-ordinate the Grand Sponsors Scheme. To actively involve Grand Sponsors in the processes, to ensure agreed Sponsor benefits are delivered and to retain Sponsors on-going financial support and commitment to this Charter and the SoPYC.

Future Operational Platforms

Grand Sponsors will contribute through annual fees and/or provision of services “in kind”, in return for privileges and benefits as agreed from time to time by the Management Committee of the SoPYC.

The Management Committee shall seek guidance from both the Grand Sponsor Committee and its Training and Development Committee, when allocating Grand Sponsorship generated funds.  Such allocations shall be transparent and properly accounted for in the Club Accounts.

The Grand Sponsor Committee shall investigate the establishment of the Coffee Point Sailing Foundation, for the sole benefit of SoPYC youth sailing, to be established along the lines and akin to the Ron Tough Yachting Foundation and its role, articles and charter supporting sailing at a WA state level.  It is proposed that the Management Committee will annually commit a minimum of 15% of GS raised funds into the growth of the capital base of this Foundation, and that this Foundation, for as long as the club shall remain in existence, may only distribute profits and interest generated to support SoPYC sailing activities. The Grand Sponsors should encourage good fellowship and communication within the GS group and the Club’s membership as a whole.
