DIVISION FOUR

      

Yachts in Division 4 generally fall into the “Quarter Ton” category. The Division caters for displacement keelboats in the 24-28 ft (7.3-8.5 m) range. Within the fleet are two main but different designs that race as a combined class, MB 24’s (a Van de Stadt quarter ton design) and Spacesailer 24’s (designed by localn aval architect Kim Swarbrick). Other main designs in Division 4 are Cole 26’s and many one-off designs of similar length. 

Division 4 is one of the largest yacht fleets at South of Perth Yacht Club. The Fleet isvery competitive with different yacht designs being more suited than others by different wind strengths. Our excellent handicap system ensures all boats aregiven the chance to win races.

On Saturday afternoons and in our winter Sunday frostbite races, spinnakers are carried. Wednesday afternoon fleets carry jib and mainsail only. Crew numbers vary from 2 to 5 depending largely on whether spinnakers are being used.
