SPORTS BOATS
The sportsboat section at South of Perth boasts the largest fleet of sportsboats in WA. Our fleet currently caters for multiple different types of sportsboats ranging from the One Design Viper 640’s through to Bethewaite designed Sports 8’s. With sportsboats able to achieve speeds of upwards of 20 knots on a Saturday afternoon race on the Swan River they are one of the most exhilarating classes of boats to sail in WA.
Racing in the sportsboat fleet is run on both a PHS style handicap system and the SMS sportsboat rating system. The PHS handicap allows newer boats in the fleet to still be apart of the results while getting to grips with their new boat. All club championship results are calculated using the SMS rating system.
There are several short course series events each season hosted by the SoPYC sportsboat fleet that are open for all sportsboats to enter. These events are run over a Saturday & Sunday morning with 4 windward/leeward races conducted each day and results for each series announced in the Sunday afternoon.
Sportsboats race with from 3 to 6 crew onboard and owners are always on the lookout for new crew members. New sportsboat owners and crew are always welcome within the sportsboat fleet at South of Perth.
For any information on the sportsboat fleet at South of Perth please contact Evan Lutey on 0439 891 433.
